Shaping Skilled Pastry Professionals in Cambodia

Each year, BED’s Pastry & Bakery program welcomes young women from underprivileged backgrounds in Cambodia, offering free, high-quality vocational training.

The intensive program combines hands-on kitchen work, theoretical culinary lessons, and practical workshops, along with essential soft skills development.

Students also complete a 4-month internship with local luxury hotels, bakeries, or hospitality partners in Siem Reap, giving them real-world experience and ensuring they are job-ready upon graduation.

Too many disadvantaged youth lack pathways to decent work. Women, minorities & youth with disabilities face the greatest barriers.

Skills lead to jobs when training matches labour market demand. Inclusive access helps vulnerable youth build sustainable futures.

Deliver targeted vocational training in Pastry & Bakery, aligned with labour market needs and focused on the most vulnerable youth.

To bridge the gap between economic vulnerability and the demands of the modern hospitality sector, our training center operates as a fully integrated professional hub. Our pedagogy focuses on operational autonomy. We combine rigorous professional standards with market realities to ensure our students graduate not just as assistants, but as skilled pastry chefs and future entrepreneurs. Our methodology is built upon five foundational pillars.

Market-Driven Training

Programs are continuously adapted to labor market needs and developed in close collaboration with hospitality employers, luxury hotels, and industry partners.

Practical & Technical Skills

Students gain real-world experience through hands-on training in Pastry, Bread Making, and Bakery Arts, building professional kitchen management expertise.

Inclusive Access

Priority given to vulnerable youth, women, minorities, and youth with disabilities—all from disadvantaged households—ensuring a 100% women enrollment in the Pastry & Bakery program.

Career Guidance & Employment Pathways

Students receive career counselling, job readiness training, internships, and support to access immediate employment or culinary entrepreneurship opportunities.

Holistic Support

Nutrition, healthcare, social support, life skills, and individual follow-up help students overcome barriers to learning and successfully transition into professional life.

After graduating from the Bayon Bakery & Pastry School, I worked in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh before returning to my hometown during COVID-19. In 2023, I opened my first small family bakery, managing everything on my own—from production to sales.

Thanks to the technical skills, guidance, and support I received at Bayon, I gained confidence and ambition. Today, I have opened a larger and more modern bakery, a symbol of my growth and hard work. I start every day at 3 a.m., preparing products for wholesale and retail with passion and dedication.

To all aspiring bakers: work hard, be patient, and stay focused. Passion can truly lead to success and fulfilment.
